2nd annual GumboFest is Saturday at Boca Raton’s Red Reef Park
GumboFest is right around the corner.
The second annual Boca GumboFest fundraiser – benefitting the Friends of Gumbo Limbo – will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16 at Red Reef Park West, 1400 N. Ocean Blvd., Boca Raton.
A special noon to 1 p.m. event will be held for VIP ticket holders.
Saturday’s forecast calls for sunny skies and temperatues in the mid 70s.
The event features local chefs from around South Florida cooking up their best-tasting gumbo, all the while hoping to earn the coveted “Grand Gumbo Master of South Florida” crown. In 2018, Ouza Bay won the ‘Grand Gumbo’ title, while Boca Resort & Beach Club was the ‘People’s Choice’ winner.
Funky Buddha Brewery, Boca Beach Club and Resort, The Butcher Shop and Loch Bar have been announced as gumbo-making contestants.
Judges will be Gordon Gilbert, Heather McMochan, Max Lipton, Robert Weinroth and Shaina Wizov.
There will also be plenty of adult cocktails available. Naked Turtle Rum, Tito’s Vodka and St. Augustine Distillery will provide an assortment of spirits, while the Funky Buddha Brewery’s draft van will also be on the grounds.
Entertainment will start during the VIP event with live music by the Lubben Brothers. After that, The Sheffield Brothers Band will take over.
Non-alcoholic drinks will also be available and there will be games for children.
There is a limited amount of VIP tickets – priced at $40 – available, which includes a commemorative Yeti 16-ounce tumbler filled with the bevereage of your choice, the pre-event complimentary tasting of gumbo and other perks.
General admission tickets are priced at $20, with children under 12 admitted for $5.
All tickets are good for free parking at Red Reef Park East and South Beach Park, along with three Gumbo Bucks – which can be used for the purchased of drinks/food. There will also be a 50/50 raffle and silent auction.
Gumbo Limbo Nature Center, in a cooperative with the City of Boca Raton, Greater Boca Raton Beach and Park District, FAU and Friends of Gumbo Limbo, monitor over 800 turtle nests a year – within a five-mile radius of the popular A1A attraction. It releases more than 9,000 stranded sea turtle hatchlings each nesting season.
The Friends of Gumbo Limbo was founded in 1981. It works to provide advisory, programmatic and financial/fundraising support toward the stewardship of coastal marine resources.
