Boating & Beach Bash for the disabled is March 1 at Spanish River Park
The 12th annual Boating & Beach Bash for People with Disabilities will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 1 at Spanish River Park, 3001 N. Ocean Blvd., Boca Raton.
The country’s largest one-day event for those with disabilities is expected to attact thousands to the city’s largest waterfront park for a day of entertainment and boat rides.
And Sunday’s weather forecast couldn’t be better – sunny with a high of 72 degrees.
A free, fun-filled day for those adults, children and Wounded Warriors with disabilities, their family members and caregivers, the Bash has attracted participants from as far away as Italy and all across the United States.
One of the top attractions are boat rides along the Intracoastal Waterway, which will be offered all five hours.
Kellye Cash, a former Miss America and niece of country music star Johnny Cash, will sing the National Anthem and assist in various Bash activities.
Cash, whose son Brady is hearing-impaired, said, “I know the challenges that come with disabilities and helping turn them into abilities.
Also entertaining will be singer Kechi Okwuchi, a Nigerian-American singer and movtivational speaker, who is returning to headline the Bash for her third straight year. She will be joined on stage by Rion Paige, a finalist on the X-Factor, who is a country-and-western musician.
The event started in 2009 with 350 participants, a handful of volunteers and three boats. By 2012, it had grown to 4,500 attendees, 500 volunteers and 24 boats, and the 10th anniversary in 2018 drew nearly 6,000 guests.
Said Jay Van Vechten, the Bash’s executive director. “Each year the Bash grows in so many ways – with our entertainment, support, visitors, features and sheer fun factor.”
A trolley shuttle and a second Catabello Express mini-train will assist guests in getting around the park and will run continuously until 3:30 p.m.
