Gumbo Limbo Nature Center of Boca Raton will hold its annual fundraising race event on Sunday, April 14.

‘Run for Sea Turtles’ races will start and finish at Spanish River Park, 3001 N. Ocean Blvd., in Boca Raton.

There will be a 10K race that start at 7:15 a.m. April 14, is run on a certified course and is chip timed. The 1-mile Fun Run/Walk will follow with a 7:20 a.m. start.

Awards will be given to 10K racers, and all participants will be treated to food and raffle prizes after the races.

The Friends of Gumbo Limbo will hold a special “Happy Hour” from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27th at Crazy Uncle Mike’s 6450 N. Federal Highway, Boca Raton. Make a $10 donation to The Gumbo Limbo 10K and receive a free beer. All funds from the Happy Hour will go to Save Sea Turtles at Gumbo Limbo.

Gumbo Limbo monitors five miles of local Boca Raton beaches – and beyond – marking/monitoring sea turtle nests and rescuing stranded turtles. The nature center also provides medical treatment for sick/injured turtles.

Gumbo Limbo has a variety of events focused on sea turtles, from its popular Sea Turtle Day in March, to turtle walks in the late spring and turtle hatchling releases in the summer.

Founded in 1984, Gumbo Limbo Nature Center is a cooperative project of the City of Boca Raton, the Greater Boca Raton Beach and Park District, Florida Atlantic University, and Friends of Gumbo Limbo.

Last year, more than 200,000 visitors toured the popular 20-acre A1A location at 1801 N. Ocean Blvd., Boca Raton.
